Beatriz B. Chaves

June 16, 1945 — March 13, 2026

Hudson, MA

Beatriz B. Chaves, a woman of generosity, kindness, and deep maternal warmth, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on June 16, 1945, in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, Beatriz was proud of her heritage and upbringing in her native land before emigrating to the United States in 1969.

Beatriz settled in Hudson, Massachusetts, a community she cherished and where she built a life rich in family and service. She dedicated many years of her working life to the Sheraton-Framingham Hotel, where she served as a housekeeper with pride and diligence until her retirement in 2015. Beyond her professional life, Beatriz found joy and fulfillment in the company of family. She was particularly devoted to all the children in her life, including the many nieces and nephews she lovingly raised as if they were her own. She was a member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson and also a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club.

Known for her compassionate and selfless nature, Beatriz embraced her role as a matriarchal figure, offering nurturing and support to those around her. Her hobbies reflected her gentle spirit: knitting during quiet moments and traveling with family to explore new places, as well as making frequent visits back to Santa Maria to reconnect with roots and dear friends.

Beatriz's surviving family members include her husband of 31 years, Americo M. Chaves of Hudson, MA; step-children Jose H. Chaves and his wife Juvenalia of Hudson, MA, and Maria J. Carroll and her husband Dwayne of Florida; step-daughter-in-law Jill McCloud of Marlborough, MA, wife of the late Mario J. Chaves; sisters Teresa Duarte of Canada, Maria Lina Bairos of Canada, and Maria Fatima Bairos of Hudson, MA; and grandchildren Caitlin Carroll and Anthony Carroll of Florida, Jose "JJ" Chaves of Boston, MA, Mason Muller of Florida, and Dina Chaves of Waltham. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will continue to carry forward her memory.

Beatriz was predeceased by her parents, Jose Figueiredo and Maria Jesus (Bairos) Figueiredo; her step-son Mario J. Chaves; her sisters Maria Guimar Figueiredo and Isondina B. (Figueiredo) Chaves; and her brothers Antonio Figueiredo and Jose Figueiredo.
