Catherine “Cathy” Russo (Fitzpatrick), a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born on October 24, 1943, in Boston, Massachusetts, Cathy was raised in Watertown, where she attended local schools and graduated from Watertown High School in 1961. Gifted with a lifelong love of learning, she furthered her education at Boston State College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1965—a milestone that would set the foundation for her enduring impact as an educator.

Cathy’s passion for teaching was clear from the very beginning. She began her career in 1965 at King Philip High School in Wrentham, imparting her knowledge and love of the English language to generations of students. In 1975, she became a valued member of the Hudson Public School system, devoting herself to teaching English at the J.F.K. Middle School. Throughout her lengthy tenure, Cathy’s commitment to nurturing young minds was matched only by her steadfast dedication to her colleagues and community. Students and peers alike regarded her as a caring and devoted individual, always willing to volunteer her time and energy to support school events and activities.

In 1966, Cathy moved to Hudson, Massachusetts, a community she valued deeply. Together with her late husband, Domenic "Buddy" Russo, she raised their family with love and devotion, making countless memories along the way. Cathy’s involvement extended beyond her home and classroom as she gave generously of her time to Hudson students, local organizations, and served as a Girl Scout leader; guiding not only her own children but countless others across the community.

Her varied interests reflected her vibrant spirit; she was an avid reader who found immense joy in exploring new stories and ideas. Cathy also enjoyed walking and treasured summers spent on Cape Cod, where she and her family relished the tranquility and beauty of the seaside.

Cathy’s greatest pride was always her family. She leaves behind three devoted children: Stephanie Nardone and her husband, Bruno of Northborough, MA, Domenic “Mike” Russo, husband of the late Maureen (Duffey) Russo, who died in 2006, and James “Jay” Russo and his wife, Amanda of Hudson, MA. Her role as a grandmother brought her endless joy, and she cherished each moment spent with her grandchildren: Bailey Nardone, Paul Nardone, Gabrielle Russo, Dom Russo, Angelina Russo, Maximus Russo, and Alex Krayniak. Cathy also is survived by her loving sister, Joanne Traber along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Buddy Russo, who passed away in 1999, her parents Joseph Fitzpatrick and Dorothy A. (McDonald) Fitzpatrick, and her sister Carolyn Levey. The family finds comfort in knowing she is now reunited with those who went before her, and her legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will live on in those whose lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Cathy's memory during visitation hours on Tuesday, July 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749.
