Charles Edward Hickey Jr., 79, affectionately known as Charlie, passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 7, 1946, in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Charlie grew up on Manning Street in Hudson and attended local schools. Though he later settled in Marlborough to raise his family, he always held Hudson close to his heart.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Charlie served two honorable tours during the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1972. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of pride that he carried throughout his life. Following his time in the service, Charlie embarked on a long career as a meat cutter for Stop & Shop. He was a dedicated member of the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) International Union, where he was honored to serve as a Union Steward. His commitment to his community was further reflected in his work as a Deputy Sheriff out of the Framingham office and his many years of service with the Hudson Auxiliary Fire Department.
Charlie was known for his generosity, infectious smile, and huge heart. While his kindness reached many, Charlie’s greatest joy and deepest devotion were reserved for his family. He was a constant fixture at every family event and all the kids’ activities. That same unwavering support extended to his grandchildren, who were the absolute light of his life. Whether he was attending their school programs or simply sharing a laugh, Charlie was a devoted presence, ensuring each grandchild knew they were deeply loved and celebrated. Some of his favorite hobbies were going to Dairy Queen and hanging out with his friends at Honey Dew known as the ‘The Honey Dew Retired Misfits.’
Charlie took great pride in his family, especially his daughters and their families. He is survived by Camille Marshall and her husband, Seth, of Bolton, MA; and Christiann Kelley and her husband, Nicholas, of Hudson, MA. Charlie’s legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Aidan and Caroline Marshall, and Conner and Caitlyn Kelley. He is also survived by his wife Joanna (Domenico) Hickey, brother, Jimmy Hickey of Southborough, MA; his sister, Dee Jordan and husband Timothy of Hudson, MA; brother-in-law Bob Naugler and wife Michele of Plymouth, MA. He is further survived by his step- daughters Kristen Grillo and husband Peter of Hopedale, MA, and Karla Bucchino and husband Dave of North Attleborough, MA, and Colleen Humphrey and Matthew of Lyden, WA. He is survived by his step- grandchildren, Kaylee O’Reilly, Kelsey Grillo, and Ricky Grillo. He further leaves behind Constance Banfill and husband Ronald of Marlborough along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, especially his lifelong friend, Steve Fournier.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Hickey Sr.; his mother, Doris H. (Belmore) Hickey; and his sister, Nancy Naugler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service and Celebration of Charlie's life will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home in Hudson, MA. Burial with Military Honors will take place immediately following the funeral service at Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson, MA.
Throughout his life, Charlie leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
