Denver R. Metcalf, a man whose life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to family and community, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026. Born on February 17, 1930, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Denver lived a full and meaningful life that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He was raised in Missouri and resided at several locations, resulting from his father’s occupation in Missouri. He attended local schools and was a high school graduate. He attended several college courses prior to enlisting in the Army National Guard.

Denver's career was firmly rooted in the dry cleaning industry. He brought a personal touch and old-fashioned service to his clients. Alongside his partner Ed McNiff, he owned and operated Nu System Laundry of Marlborough. Known for his personable nature and steadfast dedication, Denver prided himself on personally calling on his clients to pick up and deliver their laundry, a practice he maintained with great pride until the remarkable age of 82.

Denver served his country with honor in the Army National Guard and was later drafted in the Regular Army until his honorable Discharge and transfer back to Army Reserves in 1953 He served as a Cpl in the Military Police during his service. His service was a testament to his deep sense of duty and patriotism, qualities that he carried throughout his life.

Denver’s engaging personality was characterized by his joyfulness and love of entertaining. Friends and family fondly recall the many gatherings at his home, where his laughter filled the air and guests delighted in the warmth of the bar he had lovingly built in his cellar. His spirited nature made every event memorable and exemplified his role as a cherished friend and host.

In addition to his professional and social endeavors, Denver found joy in various hobbies. He was an avid bowler, eagerly participating in bowling leagues at the Maple Lanes Bowling Alleys in Marlborough. His love for boating took him from the peaceful waters of the Sudbury River to the expansive beauty of Lake Quinsigamond, reflecting a lifelong connection to nature and recreation.

Denver was an active member of his community, holding membership with both the Hudson Lodge of Elks and the Marlborough Moose Lodge, further underscoring his commitment to fellowship and service.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Helga E. (Schulze) Metcalf; his children Steven Metcalf of Clinton, MA, Diane Henning of Modesto California, and Lawrence Metcalf of Marlborough, MA and his Fiance Francine Marlowe of Marlborough MA; Step-sons Edwin Bradley of Palmer MA, and Ronald Bradley of Marlborough MA; grandchildren Jennifer Brammer, and Steven Metcalf Jr.; great-grandchildren Emma Brammer and Owen Brammer; as well as his siblings Jimmie Metcalf and Ruby Mae Metcalf. Denver is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who hold his memory dear.

Denver was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (Yeo) Metcalf, who passed away in 1983; his parents James Metcalf and Ida Mae (Gilmore) Metcalf; brothers Glen, Lawrence, Leslie, Calvin, Martin, and Coy Metcalf; sisters Opal Metcalf and Ruth Metcalf; and his grandchild Tammy Graves.

Family and friends may gather to honor his memory at the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home in Hudson, MA. Visitation will be held on June 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Procession will follow for burial services with Military Honors at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, in Marlborough, MA.

Denver R. Metcalf’s legacy is one of heartfelt dedication, warm companionship, and an enduring commitment to those he loved. His presence enriched the lives of all around him, and his memory will continue to inspire and comfort in the days ahead.
