Elvira C. Rego, born on December 1, 1950, in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, passed away peacefully at her home in Hudson, MA, on May 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Elvira's journey from her birthplace to the United States was marked by resilience and determination, as she established herself and enriched the lives of those around her.
Elvira spent a significant part of her professional life dedicated to her work at Hudson Lock Company, where she served as a machine operator for 26 years. Following her tenure at Hudson Lock, she joined the housekeeping team at Marlborough Hospital, where she found fulfillment in her service to others until her eventual retirement.
A devoted member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson and the Hudson Portuguese Club, Elvira was an active community member who cherished her connections with others. Her wit and sense of humor brought joy to many, and she was especially known for her ability to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere wherever she went.
Elvira spent her early years in Santa Maria prior to moving to the United States in 1974. She maintained her Portuguese heritage while embracing the new opportunities that life in America offered.
Elvira was also an accomplished seamstress, often crafting garments for her family and friends, and providing alterations as needed. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, a skill that depicted her creative spirit.
Her love for family was profound, and she took great pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. Elvira adored her children—Lisa Traiforos and her husband Nick of Marlborough, MA; Sandra Rego of Hudson, MA; and Robert "Bobby" Rego and his wife Alicia of Hudson, MA. She was also a cherished grandmother to Liana Melecio of Upton, MA; Jason Traiforos, Alyssa Traiforos of Marlborough, MA; Isaak Rego, and Luke Rego of Hudson Hudson, MA.
Elvira is survived by her dear siblings: Maria Chaves of Hudson, MA; Iberia Freitas of Connecticut; Rosa Chaves and her husband Antonio of Taunton, MA; Natalia Chaves and her husband Jose Antonio of Hudson, MA; Jose Andrade and his wife Celestina of Hudson, MA; Antonio Andrade and his wife Ilda of Hudson, MA; Alfredo Andrade and his wife Donna of Connecticut; and Ernesto Andrade and his wife Isabel of California. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will fondly remember her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 29 years, David C. Rego, who passed away in 2003, as well as her parents, Manuel Andrade and Filomena "Tavares" Andrade.
A visitation in honor of Elvira will take place on June 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, located at 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass celebrating her life will be held the following day, June 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Michael Church, 23 Manning Street, Hudson, MA. Following the Mass, a graveside service will be held at Saint Michael Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
Elvira C. Rego's legacy of love, humor, and dedication to family will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will endure in the hearts of her loved ones, and she will be deeply missed.
