Marlborough, MA

Frederick A. Bradlee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 31, 1940, in Somerville, Massachusetts, to his late parents, Jeremiah and Madeline (Lewis) Bradlee.

Fred attended parochial schools and graduated from Matignon High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1958. He earned a degree in Chemistry from Northeastern University and began his career in the research division of Raytheon. He subsequently worked at the Sperry Research Center in Sudbury, Massachusetts for many years before eventually returning to Raytheon, where he remained until his retirement.

Fred had a joyful life and was known for his warm and outgoing personality. He was a gifted storyteller, always ready with a joke or a memorable anecdote. He cherished time spent with family and friends and enjoyed celebrating every occasion and holiday. His passion for family shone in everything he did, and he took immense pride in the memories they created together.

His interests included baking, winemaking, history, and financial news, especially the stock market. Fred was a devoted sports enthusiast, holding season tickets to the Red Sox for many years and closely following Boston’s professional teams. When his children were young, he volunteered as a youth baseball coach and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson, Massachusetts, for many years.

Fred and his wife, Dorothy E. (Ryan) Bradlee, shared 59 wonderful years of marriage and raised their family in Hudson, Massachusetts. They also treasured time at their homes on Cape Cod and enjoyed winter retreats in Nokomis and Naples, Florida.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy; his son, Timothy M. Bradlee of Marlborough, Massachusetts; his daughter-in-law, Carol (McGarvin) Bradlee of Bolton, Massachusetts, wife of his late son, David F. Bradlee; his brothers, Kevin Bradlee and wife Monica of Salisbury, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida, and Frank Bradlee and wife Geraldine of Saugus, Massachusetts; his sisters-in-law Grace Miller of The Villages, Florida, and Carol Brandolini of Wareham, Massachusetts; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Olivia, and Theresa Bradlee. He is also fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who were fortunate to have known him.

He was predeceased by his son, David F. Bradlee, in 2021, as well as his brother, William Bradlee of Manassas, Virginia, and his sister, Anne Marie Cusack of Lynn, Massachusetts.
