Hudson, MA

Joan M. Wilkinson, age 77, lifelong resident of Hudson, MA, died January 28, 2022 at UMass Memorial Health Care, University Campus, Worcester, MA.

Joan was born in Marlborough, MA, daughter of the late Charles I. and Beatrice (Brown) Wilkinson. She was raised in Hudson MA, attending local schools, and was a 1962 graduate Hudson High School. Following high school, Joan attended the Worcester Trade School to become a hairdresser. After a short stint at hairdressing, Joan was employed by Marlborough Hospital as a key punch operator for 20 years. She then spent 20 years at Hypertronics in Hudson assisting the sales team and progressed her way into becoming a sales representative until her retirement in 2015. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hudson and a member of the church’s Women’s Club. She also was a Brownie Leader for the Girl Scouts in Hudson.

Joan is survived by her brother, David P. Wilkinson and his wife Susan of Hudson, MA; her two sisters, Sally Ann Wilkinson with whom she resided in Hudson, and Marcia J. Cairns, wife of the late Edward Cairns of West Boylston, MA. She was predeceased by her siblings Charles R. Wilkinson and Joyce Wilkinson.

She is also survived by her nieces: Corinne Karanja of West Boylston, Charlene Downey (Kerry) of Marlboro, Denise Woods (Jim) of Clinton, Rhonda Duncan (Brian) of Westboro, and Dawn Capobianco (Christopher) of Hudson; her nephews: Patrick Wilkinson (Jennifer) of Gates, North Carolina and David Wilkinson (Julia) of Hudson; her great-nieces: Jennifer Roach, Jean Roach, Jordin Downey, and Katie McPherson; her great-nephews: Joe Mullaly, Pete Esparza, Brandon Wilkinson, Kerry J Downey, Jaxon Capobianco, Gavin Capobianco, Edward Wilkinson, and Andrew Wilkinson; 2 great-great-nephews; her best friend April Crouch of Berlin, and many other extended relatives and friends.

Joan worked diligently throughout her life, always striving to learn more and progress in her career as the years went by. She enthusiastically looked forward to traveling – whether it was a good road trip or extended vacation with her family and friends, especially to Florida.  She enjoyed taking a cruise to tropical locations whenever the opportunity was there. Most of all, she cherished her family, spending time with her siblings and later all of her nieces and nephews and their families. Time with family was always special and everyone looked forward to her talents in the kitchen, preparing many special dishes for all to enjoy.  She loved collecting cookbooks and trying new recipes.  She also loved to shop both in stores, online, or on QVC and HSN.  She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, by all who loved and knew her.
