Joao M. Costa

November 2, 1935 — September 18, 2025

Hudson

Joao M. Costa, a cherished member of the Hudson community and dedicated family man, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at Marlborough Hospital in Marlborough, MA. He was born on November 2, 1935, in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, where he spent his formative years immersed in the rich traditions of his homeland.

In 1972, Joao made the bold decision to immigrate to the United States, settling in Hudson, MA, where he became an integral part of the local Portuguese community. He spent many years as a skilled sandblaster in the manufacturing industry, working for the Entwistle Company of Hudson for over 15 years. His contributions to the Military Defense program, particularly in support of the launching and retrieving devices of Navy aircraft carriers, were a source of pride for him. Joao retired in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work.

Joao appreciated old traditional values and, in his own unique way, was always "set in his ways." He was a devoted parishioner of Saint Michael's Parish, where he found solace and community among fellow churchgoers. Joao looked forward to his travels back to Santa Maria, where he would reconnect with family and friends, cherishing those moments deeply.

Throughout his life, Joao took immense pride in his garden, cultivating it with love and sharing the fruits of his labor with many relatives and friends. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, and later relished in the role of Great Grandfather. His legacy continues through his children and grandchildren, who carry forward the values and traditions he instilled in them.

Joao is survived by his son, Jose Costa and his wife Vanessa of Hudson, MA; his brother, Antonio Costa of Canada; sisters, Gloria Braga of Hudson, MA, Emilia Braga and her husband Jose of Hudson, MA, and Maria Collins and her husband Warren of Hudson, MA. He is also survived by his grandsons, Randy Costa and his wife Nhu Dao of Hudson, MA, Ryan Costa and his wife Yen Nhi of Hudson, MA, and Shaun Costa of Worcester, MA; his granddaughter, Karoline Costa of Hudson, MA; great-grandson, Tywin Costa; great-granddaughter, Sophia Costa; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Joao is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria (Braga) Costa, who passed away in 1999; his father, Antonio Costa; his mother, Maria (Jose) Costa; brothers, Jose Costa, Manuel Costa; and sisters, Maria Carvalho and Maria Nascimento.
