Joao T. Monteiro, of Hudson, Massachusetts, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Hudson, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 27, 1946, in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal.

In 1971, Joao moved from Santa Maria, Azores, to Hudson, where he made his home and raised his family. A hardworking and steady man, he worked for S&F Concrete for 31 years as a laborer before retiring in 2001. He was also a member of Laborers Union Local 609. Joao was known as someone who showed his love through his actions, and his friends described him as quiet and loyal.

Joao found happiness in simple and meaningful pleasures. He loved being outdoors, tending to his garden and grape vines, and making wine. He took great pride in his lawn and enjoyed keeping it beautiful. He also truly enjoyed playing cards with his wife, his sister Liduina, and his brother-in-law Tony. He always looked forward to returning to Santa Maria to visit his friends and family there. Deeply devoted to those he loved, Joao was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His faith was an important part of his life, and he attended Saint Michael’s Parish regularly.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Monteiro, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. He also leaves his sons, Dennis Monteiro and his wife Denise of Berlin, and David Monteiro and his wife Christine of Hudson. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Liduina Chaves and her husband Tony of Hudson, and by his sister, Maria Gloria Tavares Monteiro of Santa Maria, Azores.

Joao was a proud grandfather to Marissa Mellen and her husband Josh of Milford, Jason Monteiro and his wife Morgan of Worcester, J.J. Monteiro of Hudson, Jack Monteiro of Hudson, and great granddaughter Sofia Monteiro. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, along with the many family members and friends whose lives were brightened by his steady presence, quiet strength, and enduring love.

He was predeceased by his father, Jose Puim Monteiro; his mother, Maria Sousa Tavares Monteiro; and his brothers, Antonio Tavares Monteiro and Jose Tavares Monteiro.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Saint Michael’s Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA 01749, followed by burial at 11:00 AM at Saint Michael Cemetery, 278 Cox Street, Hudson, MA 01749.

Joao will be remembered for the life he built through hard work, devotion, faith, and love. His care for his family, his loyalty to friends, and the quiet way he gave of himself will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
