John David MacDonald, Jr.

John David MacDonald, Jr., 61, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026, at his residence in the comfort of his devoted and loving son, J.T., and his lifelong best friend, Michael Sabourin.

Born on March 1, 1965, in Framingham, MA, to Margaret (Broll) MacDonald and the late John D. MacDonald, John was raised in Hudson from the age of seven and remained a lifelong resident of this close-knit community, affectionately known as "Johnny Mac" or "Macky."

A graduate of Hudson High School's class of 1983, he was a dedicated Hawks football player and beloved teammate throughout all four years of high school. Continuing his education, he earned an Associate’s Degree from Worcester State College, laying the foundation for a diverse and accomplished career.

Professionally, John held several positions in Operations at Stratus Computer in Maynard, MA, followed by Cognex Corporation in Natick, MA, where he held the position of Logistics Supervisor. After leaving Cognex, John served as an assistant football coach at Westborough High School. He was deeply passionate about sports and youth coaching, instilling in young players the same love for the game that fueled his own life. 

John's family was his proudest accomplishment; he cherished spending quality time with his children, which brought him immense pride and joy. He coached his son J.T. throughout youth sports in both baseball and football. John was also an avid New England Patriots fan. Those who knew him best remember him as passionate and fiercely loyal—a steadfast presence who was also the life of any gathering, capable of lifting spirits and fostering camaraderie at every event.

John is survived by his beloved children, Jack (J.T.) MacDonald, 27, and Jessica MacDonald, 21, and his devoted mother, Margaret (Peggy) MacDonald. He was preceded in death by his father, John D. MacDonald, and his sister, Linda Tuper-MacDonald.

Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Tighe Regional Funeral Home, located at 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in his memory on June 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Saint Michael Church, 23 Manning Street, Hudson, followed by interment at Forestvale Cemetery on Broad Street in Hudson.

John David MacDonald, Jr.’s legacy of love, loyalty, and passion leaves an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for his impact on his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
