John Joseph Murphy, age 73, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 14, 2017.

He was the son of the late William Francis Murphy and Mary Edith (McManus) Murphy.

He is survived by his sister, Denise C Murphy of Hudson, his brother, Michael F Murphy and his wife, Cheryl, of Hudson, his 2 nephews, Erik F Murphy and Jason L Murphy and his grandniece, Karissa L Murphy. He leaves behind his longtime friend, James Houde and is also survived by an aunt and uncle and many cousins from Canada.

John was born in Waltham and lived in Somerville till 1954 at which time he moved to Hudson. John graduated from Worcester Boys’ Trade High School in 1963, where he studied Machine Practice.

In 1967, John was drafted into the Army and eventually fought in the Vietnam War. After serving in the Army, he worked for a moving company and then in 1975 worked as a tool and die maker in Milford until his retirement. John was well liked. His neighbors said he was always helpful. His favorite hobbies were fishing, both fresh water and deep sea fishing. He also enjoyed painting small items, such as bird houses and rocks. John enjoyed being involved with the community and was active with the Amvets, VFW and the Eagles.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2017 at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be private at a later date.
