Jose D. Correia, a man beloved by all who knew him and a deeply respected member of the community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hudson, MA on August 28, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
Born on April 27, 1934 in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, Jose grew up and began his family on the island before moving to the United States and settling in Hudson, MA in 1967. A lover of life, he was almost never seen without a smile on his face. He cherished late Saturday nights out dancing with his wife and friends, long beach days with his daughters in Ogunquit, ME, and early mornings fishing in Nantucket Sound and Buzzards Bay.
Known for his green thumb, he tended to his vegetable garden and grape vines with love, sharing the fruits of his labor in the form of beautiful lettuces, delicious tomatoes, and homemade wine. A fan of soccer from his youth, he was a passionate supporter of Portugal’s S.L. Benfica and C.D. Santa Clara and even grew to embrace American football and hockey, proudly supporting the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. Above all, he was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved - in his home, on the boat, at backyard barbecues, and during each and every holiday or surprise weeknight drop-in.
Jose embodied the essence of a hard worker. Before coming to America, he was proud to work for the Portuguese government, maintaining telecommunications systems throughout the Azores. He later spent countless days honing his skills as a concrete finisher and foreman with S&F Concrete. His passion for his work carried him well into his late 80s, earning him the deep respect and admiration of his peers. He was a longstanding member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union Local 3-MA. A perfectionist through and through. Jose was meticulous in his work and believed something was only worth doing if done right. He never set expectations for others that he didn’t hold himself to, and those he worked with were better for it.
His cherished contributions to the community extended beyond his profession. Jose held a Hudson Elks membership and was an active member and past President of the Hudson Portuguese Club. His hands were never idle. You would regularly find him at the homes of friends and family lending a hand whenever needed.
Family was of paramount importance to Jose, and his proudest accomplishment lives on in the legacy of the love he cultivated. He was a devoted husband to Lisette M. (Goncalo) Correia for 64 beautiful years, a nurturing father to his daughters Manuela Gouveia and her husband Serry of Billerica, MA, and Christina Willwerth and her partner Carlos Perez of Boylston, MA. He was a loving grandfather whose smile beamed when talking about his four grandchildren: Madison Gouveia of Brooklyn, NY, Serry Gouveia Jr. of Billerica, MA, and Gwyn Willwerth and Max Willwerth both of Boylston, MA, who fondly referred to him as Vo Joe.
Jose's departure leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, his beloved wife, daughters, grandchildren, and sisters Luisa Braga of Hudson, MA, Teresa and her husband Jose Mauricio of Hudson, MA, Francelina Medeiros of Sao Miguel, Azores, sister-in-law Maria Manuela and her husband Antonio Frias of Hudson, MA, and many nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. He joins his beloved parents, Arsenio and Eremelinda (de Melo) Correia, and sisters Maria Lourdes Martines, Violante Silva, and Guilhermina Ponte in eternal rest.
Jose D. Correia leaves behind a legacy woven with threads of deep love, countless memories, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends. The love he shared and the memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
