Jose C. Fernandes, 83, of Hudson, MA, passed in his home on Friday, March 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Jose was born on March 15, 1940, in Santa Maria - Azores, Portugal, oldest of nine children of the late Antonio Soares Fernandes and Maria Soares Chaves.
Jose is survived by his daughter Leonilde Santos and her husband Pedro; his three sons Jose Antonio Fernandes, Antonio Dinis Fernandes and his wife Tami, and Carlos Fernandes and his wife Rachel; his brother Joao Fernandes and his wife Fatima; his five sisters, Maria Dutra, Maria Jose Bairos and her husband Jose, Eugenia Leal and her husband Joao, Conceicao Resendes and her husband Jose Antonio and Valentina Chaves and her husband Jose Manuel; His sister in laws, Filomena Fernandes, Celeste Fernandes and Helena Resendes and her husband Jose; ten grandchildren (Andrew, Jose, Melissa, Michael, Joanna, Kelsey, Halie, Kyle, Carlos Jr. and Christopher), and 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his wife Maria I Fernandes, two brothers; Manuel Fernandes and Antonio Fernandes, and his granddaughter Tamica.
Jose emigrated to the United States from Santa Maria - Azores, Portugal, in 1973, and settled in Hudson, MA, where he lived until his passing. Jose was a devout Catholic, and a parishioner at Saint Michael Parish in Hudson, MA. Additionally, he was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club. He also enjoyed gardening, and pruning his grape vines, spending time with his family, and later in life, time spent with his grandchildren and attending his adult day program at the Blaire House in Milford, Ma.
Calling Hours for Jose will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 8am-9:30am, at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 10am, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson, MA. Family would like to thank Faith and Family Hospice for their loving dedication and care.
