Hudson, MA

Judith C. Silva, affectionately known as Judy, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at her residence surrounded by the community she cherished at Machado House, Peter's Grove in Hudson, Massachusetts. Born on July 3, 1949, in Sao Miguel, the Azores of Portugal, she immigrated to the United States in 1968, where she would go on to make an indelible impact on those around her.

Judy dedicated 36 years of her life to the Hudson Lock Company as a machine operator before retiring. In her retirement, she turned her focus towards caring for the elderly in her local community, providing loving and memorable care to the residents she served. Judy was a kind soul whose unique spirit of love, loyalty, and care will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Judy possessed a vibrant personality that shined within the walls of Peter's Grove. She became known not only for her warmth and friendship but also for her multifaceted roles within the community. A talented party planner, game coordinator, and the de facto chef and caterer, Judy’s cooking was a source of joy for many, as she prepared dishes that residents looked forward to with great anticipation. She was also a devoted member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson and active member of the Hudson Senior Center.

She leaves behind her beloved family, including her son, Elcid Silva of Marlborough, MA; her daughter, Sandra Cabral and her fiancé, Bernard Mullan, of Hudson, MA; her sister, Maria Fernanda Silva and her husband, Aleilson, of Medway, MA; her sister, Lucia Estrela of Hudson, MA; her brother, Antonio Jose Tavares and his partner, Joanne Amaral, of New Bedford, MA; and her brother, Duarte Tavares and his wife, Trindade, of Londonderry, NH. Judy was a proud grandmother to Alyssa Walker of Bradford, VT; Lilly Cabral of Worcester, MA; and Abigail Cabral of Marlborough, MA. Her legacy also includes a cherished great granddaughter, Emily Longto of Bradford, VT, alongside many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whose lives she touched profoundly.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Dinis Tavares, and her mother, Maria Christina (Pimental) Tavares.
