LaRayne Kae Horton(Johannes), age 79, passed away on October 28, 2026. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 2, 1947, she was one of 12 children. She later made her home in Hudson, Massachusetts, living a life of fierce love, strength, and deep devotion to her family and community.
LaRayne was happily married for 58 years to her beloved husband, Frederick W. Horton Sr. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home centered on family. She spent many years serving her local community as a dedicated school bus driver for Hudson Public Schools, safely transporting generations of local children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick W. Horton Sr.; her father, Frederick H. Johannes; her mother, Emma M. Johannes(Bokelman); her son, Edward E. Horton; her twin sister, DeLayne Perkins(Johannes); her sisters, Viola, Lolli, and Alice; and her brothers Fred, Robert, and Henry.
LaRayne is survived by her son, Frederick W. Horton Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Kim Horton; her sister, Betsy; and her brothers, Daniel, David, and Larry Johannes. Her legacy and creative spirit continue through her granddaughters, Shelby and Shania Horton, who loved their Grammy dearly, as well as her great-granddaughter, Paisley McGinn, and great-grandson, Nash Casella, who adored their GG, alongside many dear friends and extended family members.
LaRayne had a creative, generous heart and a true passion for arts and crafts, from painting, knitting, and crocheting to crafting with her great-grandchildren. She also loved cooking of all kinds, but she was especially famous for her baking—often whipping up delicious chocolate chip cookies by the dozens for those she loved. Above all, her favorite title was being a grandmother and great-grandmother; she was affectionately known as "Grammy" to her granddaughters and "GG" to her great-grandchildren.
Her warmth, generosity and sweet spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
Calling hours and services for LaRayne will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Tighe-Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, located at 50 Central Street in Hudson, Massachusetts.
