Mabel D. Belmore, a beloved and cherished figure in her community, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in Northborough, MA. Born on September 14, 1924, in Marlborough, MA to the late Elizabeth A. (Breault) and D. Edgar Ledoux. Mabel lived a remarkable life defined by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved and cared for.
Mabel’s early years were spent attending local schools in Marlborough, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with hard work and compassion. She pursued a career as a computer technician with Digital Computer Company, where she was known for her steadfast dedication and pride in her work. After retiring in the early 1980s, Mabel embraced the joys of life with the same passion she brought to her profession.
A woman of warmth and generosity, Mabel was known for putting others first. She never needed much for herself, but would gladly give the shirt off her back for anyone in need. She knew everyone around the area, a testament to her open heart and genuine nature. Those who knew her could count on her honesty; she was never afraid to tell you like it is, always with kindness and respect.
At the heart of Mabel’s life was her family. She was predeceased by her husband Homer A. (Snookie) Belmore in 1980, her late son Stephen A. Belmore, son-in-law Donald Gates, granddaughter Kristina To and several siblings: Donald Ledoux, Francis Ledoux, Vivian (Ledoux) Owens, Delia (Ledoux) Buxton, Jeannette H. (Ledoux) Fleet, and Therese (Ledoux) Duncan. Mabel’s proudest accomplishments were raising her two children, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, among whom she leaves a loving legacy.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth A. Gates of Amherst, NH; daughter-in law Joyce Belmore of FL; grandsons James Gates and his wife Dale of Townsend, MA; Peter Gates of Amherst, NH; and grandson-in-law Charles To of FL; grandson Stephen A. and Thu Belmore of FL. The family circle also includes seven great-grandchildren, who were treasured dearly by Mabel. She was deeply devoted to her nephew James Hickey of Southborough, MA; and his son Dean and Val Hickey and children of Southborough, MA; and his daughter Erin (Hickey) and Thomas Moschos and children of Southborough, MA. She was devoted to many, many nieces and nephews.
Mabel’s hobbies reflected her love for simple joys and community connection. She was an avid knitter, lovingly crafting blankets for newborns in the family, a gift she gave over and over. Summer was her favorite season, when she enjoyed relaxing by the beach at Brant Rock in Marshfield, Hickory Hills Lake in Lunenburg, and Westport, MA. She delighted in drinking a good Manhattan and eating lobsters during these warm months, strolling the beach for sea glass, and was famed for her homemade Chex party mix, a staple at every family gathering. Mabel also loved attending bingo games at ITAM, Moose Lodge, Elks, and VFW halls, especially when they included a meat shoot, events that brought her joy and camaraderie.
Mabel’s passing leaves a void felt deeply by all who knew her. Her visitation will be held on March 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., and burial will follow at Saint Michael Cemetery, 278 Cox Street, Hudson, MA.
Through every season of her life, Mabel D. Belmore’s spirit shone brightly—steadfast, loving, and true. She took care of everyone regardless of their age, and her legacy of generosity and love will continue to inspire all who had the blessing of knowing her. Her truthfulness, kindness, and sense of community will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and neighbors. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
