Marianne Loretta Scott

March 12, 1951- September 18, 2026

Marianne was born and raised in New Milford, PA. She lived there with her mom, Mary, dad, Domenick, and brother Jim. She dedicated much of her life to education, both as a student (Lock Haven University, Penn State University, Marywood University), and as a teacher at Montrose High School for over 30 years. If you were fortunate enough to have her as your teacher, chances are you participated in at least one trip to places like NYC, Montreal, Quebec, or even Europe, specifically Paris. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing French culture with her students in any way she could, and was intentional in bringing the language to life.

Outside of school she pursued her love of travel. Marianne made trips to Argentina with her brother, countless trips to France, and was well-travelled in the States. When she was not off on an adventure, she enjoyed spending time with family. Given that her parents’ home was located between Hallstead and Montrose, she spent many evenings visiting with her parents, and caring for her mother as the years passed. She was a member of South New Milford Baptist Church, and earlier in her life was an avid pianist, sharing her talents with her church family. She faithfully prayed for her family and her community.

Although she never had children of her own, she spoiled her niece and nephew, and eventually their children, in any way she could. She would sing songs for hours, go on shopping sprees, and play and implement games, such as, “How many Eiffel Towers can you count in this room in 20 seconds?” “Mimi” would have change and single dollars lying around, as kids would have been given $0.10 for each Eiffel Tower located. Given her love of the landmark, that could add up! At Christmas she would bring several items from the Dollar Store, and set up a store of her own where she would teach the value of coins and how to count money. The teacher in her was ever-present.

Marianne cared deeply for her friends and cousins. She would plan and schedule regular phone calls, and visit with them as often as she could. One of her dearest friends remembers her as a gifted pianist and prayer partner. Several of her cousins have fond memories including, performing special music at Kingsley Community Church together. She also is remembered as one who cared deeply when others were struggling. She would attend family dinners, playing games with whomever was available, and providing a lovely French dessert for all to enjoy.

Family reunions frequently included the family spaghetti recipe or chicken BBQ, and Marianne would regularly join the cook out festivities.

In July of 2023 Marianne left her home in Pennsylvania, and moved to Massachusetts. It was not easy for her to give up the home she loved. She was a collector of all things Princess Diana; she found great joy in adding to her collection, and sharing it with all who entered. She was able to share that same enthusiasm with several residents at her facility in Massachusetts.

Lastly, it should be noted that Mimi never missed a Penn State or Wheaton College football game. She loved her football filled Saturdays, and was sure to congratulate and encourage her nephew after every game.

Marianne is survived by her niece, Katie (Hanway, Mia, and Isaiah), her nephew, Jesse (Aubrey, Evelyn, James, and Davis), and many dearly loved cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
