Dr. Martin L. Jaffe, a distinguished medical professional whose heart resonated with compassion and whose intellect shone brightly in the field of radiology, departed this life on January 16, 2020, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Born on June 24, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, Martin’s journey was one marked by an unwavering commitment to service, education, and a zest for life that extended well beyond his medical career.

Martin’s formative years were enriched by an insatiable curiosity that led him to New York University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in-Med from 1956 to 1959. He pursued further academic excellence at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, completing his MD degree in 1965. With a spirit imbued with determination, he returned to the United States to undergo a rigorous medical internship at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York, in 1966, followed by a radiology residency from 1967 to 1970 at Kings County Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn.

In the service of his country, Dr. Jaffe embraced the responsibilities of a Major in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, providing critical diagnostic care to injured servicemen. His commitment to his fellow Americans saw him stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and later at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where he left an indelible mark on the lives of many through his dedication and expertise.

Martin achieved board certification in Radiology in 1971 and went on to enjoy a successful career marked by his profound contributions to the field. Yet, it was not only his professional life that defined him; he was a man of myriad passions. Sport held a special place in his heart, for he was not only an avid baseball enthusiast but also a devoted basketball fan. His love for the outdoors manifested in countless adventures swimming, walking, and hiking, allowing him to revel in nature's beauty throughout his life.

Dr. Martin L. Jaffe is survived by his cherished daughter, Deborah, who carries forth the legacy of her father’s wisdom, along with his beloved grandchildren, Alex and Isabel. He leaves behind his only living sibling, Louise, and several dedicated nephews and nieces who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.

As we reflect upon the life of Dr. Jaffe, we celebrate a remarkable individual who harmonized the rigors of medicine with the joys of life, embodying the essence of compassion and intellect. His memory endures within the hearts of those who loved him, an everlasting testament to a life well-lived and well-loved.

A visitation in honor of Dr. Jaffe will be held on August 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, located at 50 Central St., Hudson, Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held from 12:00 PM, following a burial at Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson.
