Mary Ann (Tompkins) Fearing

October 6, 1938 – November 2, 2026

Mary Ann (Tompkins) Fearing, 88, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 2, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so much.

Born on October 6, 1938, in Leesburg, Ohio, Mary Ann was the youngest of nine children born to Harley and Pauline Tompkins. She grew up on the family farm, where she made wonderful childhood memories and developed a love for the simple things in life. She always enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in Ohio and the adventures of being part of such a large family.

Mary Ann met the love of her life, Frederick Fearing, at Clinton County Air Force Base in Ohio. They married on September 4, 1960, and spent the next 66 years building a life together filled with love, family, and countless memories.

Mary Ann and her only daughter, Shari, shared an especially close relationship. More than just mother and daughter, they shared a lifelong bond built on love, friendship, and being there for one another. Their closeness was something truly special and will always be treasured.

Mary Ann also had a very special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Jim. She always said how incredibly lucky the family was to have him. She truly appreciated the love, care, and incredible sense of humor he brought to the day and made sure he knew just how much he meant to her.

Nothing brought Mary Ann more happiness than her granddaughters, Haley and Taylor. She was their biggest fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. Whether it was a school play, Halloween parade, or sporting event, you could always count on her being there, proudly supporting them. She loved being a big part of their lives and celebrating every milestone, big or small. She was the best Nana ever.

Mary Ann had a long and successful civilian career with the United States Air Force, where she loyally served for over 38 years. Known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and professionalism, she held a variety of positions throughout her career. She retired from Hanscom Air Force Base in 1997 as Chief, Resource Management, Directorate of Acquisition Logistics.

When she wasn't working or spending time with family, Mary Ann enjoyed escaping to Florida, getting lost in a good book, and appreciating life's little pleasures. She especially loved a good martini and a beautiful sunset — and even better when she could enjoy both together. She knew how to slow down, appreciate the moment, and enjoy the things that made her happy.

Above all, Mary Ann will be remembered for the love she had for her family and the many ways she showed it. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an incredibly proud grandmother. She found her greatest happiness in simply being together with the people she loved.

Her family will miss her dearly, but they'll carry with them a lifetime of wonderful memories, laughter, and love — and will think of her whenever they see a beautiful sunset.

Mary Ann leaves behind her loving husband, Frederick Fearing; her daughter, Shari (Fearing) Gaffney, and son-in-law, Jim Gaffney, of Hudson; and her two beloved granddaughters, Haley and Taylor Gaffney.
