Morgan T. McSweeney

Jan 9, 1933 — Jun 1, 2026

Hudson, MA

Morgan J. McSweeney, 93, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026. Born January 9, 1933, in the Bronx, New York, to Morgan and Mary McSweeney, he spent time in Cork, Ireland as an infant and grew up back in the Bronx. In 1959, after a chance meeting at an Irish dance, Morgan married his beloved wife, Bridget Fitzpatrick, originally of Corofin, County Clare, Ireland. He was devoted to Bridget for 61 years, before her passing in 2020.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Maloney and her husband Kevin of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; his sons Morgan T. McSweeney and his wife Lisa of Hudson, Massachusetts, and Terence McSweeney and his wife Sharon of Ashburnham, Massachusetts. Morgan's legacy continues through his grandchildren Kaelynn Maloney, Connor Maloney, Morgan A. McSweeney, Emily Acorace, and Quinn McSweeney, as well as his great-grandchild Casey Acorace. His brother John McSweeney and his wife Elizabeth, of New York, also survive him, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will remember him with great fondness.

Morgan's life was marked by a spirit of curiosity and a deep love for his family. Morgan studied engineering and developed a life-long passion for all types of experimentation, or tinkering, as those who loved him called it. Following his school years, Morgan served in the U.S. Army, earned the prestigious "Distinguished Marksman" designation and later entered the workforce. His career took him to Western Electric in North Carolina, and later to Massachusetts, where he applied his talents at Perkin Elmer Corp. and Carl Zeiss Corp., among others. Most recently, in semi-retirement, he enjoyed working at Cabela's in Hudson, educating customers in the firearms department.

Morgan was widely regarded as a jack of all trades; family and friends could find him experimenting with various projects, crafts, or inventions in the basement of his Hudson home—his workshop, or lab, of sorts. He built musical instruments: a dulcimer, numerous woodwinds, drums, and more. He created hand-carved birds, crafted custom clocks, and an endless variety of unique home furnishings.

He was involved in restoring historical military artifacts, regularly firing the cannons he helped to restore. He also took pride in participating in historical reenactments of military battles, earning the affectionate title of a "character" among family and friends. Morgan was cherished for his unique personality and interests, as well as his candor.

Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren: he welcomed and fostered their creative spirits, inviting them as observers (or assistants, if they were cooperative) to his many projects. He was their biggest cheerleader at countless baseball games, hockey and lacrosse matches, equestrian events, Irish dance competitions, and piano recitals.

Morgan McSweeney's life was one of purpose, loyalty, and heartfelt engagement in all he undertook. His memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived.

Plans for a celebration of life are to be held in October.
