Pradip Kumar Dev

February 25, 1955 — November 2, 2025

Hudson, MA

Pradip Kumar Dev, 70, of Hudson, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly in his home on November 2, 2025.

Pradip was born January 10, 1955, in Calcutta, India, to Bithi and Bhabani Dev. He and his brother Gautam, two years his junior, were inseparable growing up; partners in both play and mischief. His mother, a schoolteacher, instilled in him a lifelong love of reading from childhood. Though the family came from a humble background, education was always of the utmost importance. Pradip did well in school, known for his outgoing nature, generosity, and loyalty to his friends.

He went on to attend the University in Calcutta, studying chemistry, a field he quickly recognized wasn't his calling. Switching gears, he went on to earn his Master's from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore. His sharp mind, curiosity and ambition would eventually carry him across continents.

In the spring of 1983, while staying at the same hotel in Madras, Pradip met Tiziana Rossi, a young Italian business owner traveling through India to source antiques and handicrafts for her newly opened store. They shared breakfast and conversation, bonding over a shared love of books, and made plans to meet again a month later in Delhi, where he was soon moving for work. Later that year, he resigned from his job as a sales manager and moved to Tiziana's hometown of Senigallia, Italy. They were married in 1984, and their daughter Jennifer was born there in 1988.

Though he arrived in Italy speaking not a word of Italian, Pradip quickly picked up the language. He first found work as an English teacher, than became a sales manager at Mase in Cesena, where he and Tiziana made lifelong friends. They enjoyed long walks through the countryside and family meals filled with delicious food and lively conversation.

Ever ambitious, Pradip eventually landed a job at Ariston. He traveled frequently for work, often for weeks at a time, and was eventually put in charge of sales for the Southeast Asia market. Accordingly, the family moved to Singapore in 1993, where they spent the next two years.

Wanting to find stability for his family, Pradip fulfilled a dream of moving to the United States in 1995, where his brother was already living. He earned an MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and their son Warren was born in Boston in 1999. After graduation, Pradip co-founded an IT startup before continuing his career in sales.

Over the past 10 years, encouraged by his wife, Pradip had reinvented himself as a schoolteacher. After earning his certification, he first worked as a substitute before becoming a full-time middle school math teacher, reaching hundreds of students across Massachusetts, including in Sudbury, Shrewsbury, Worcester, Framingham, Milford, Fitchburg and Lowell. Teaching came naturally to him, and he took pride in helping young people understand difficult concepts.

At his best, Pradip was full of life-- extroverted, charismatic, and curious. He enjoyed deep conversation on politics, philosophy, history and ideas; he loved meeting new people, and could connect across cultures and all walks of life. He took risks and embraced challenges. A foodie, he enjoyed a variety of cuisines, and sought out authentic dishes wherever he traveled. He greatly enjoyed traveling, and had recently visited Kashmir, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Vienna. He had just returned from a trip home to India for the festival season, where he reconnected with family.

Pradip is survived by his wife, Tiziana, his children Jennifer and Warren, grandchildren Sofia and Xiomara, his brother Gautam, and his nieces and nephew.
