Rosa B. Chaves
Hudson — Rosa B. Chaves, 102, born on March 9, 1923, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. On that night the northern lights lit up the sky, and it felt like a heavenly sign that an angel had made her way home.
Known to everyone with affection as “Avó Rosa” or “Tia Rosa,” she welcomed all with open arms and a generous heart, whether they were family by blood or simply by love. She was the devoted wife of the late Evaristo Chaves, who predeceased her in November 1982.
Born and raised on the island of Santa Maria in the Azores, Rosa carried the warmth, faith, and quiet strength of her homeland with her throughout her life. With tremendous courage, she and her husband immigrated to Hudson with their young family, proudly calling it home for the past 66 years.
Rosa’s life was always centered around faith and family, the two things she cherished most. A longtime member of Saint Michael Parish, she lived her devotion through small acts of kindness, prayer, and gratitude. She also worked for many years at the former Thomas Taylor & Sons Company, where she was admired for her strong work ethic.
Rosa found joy in the simplest blessings: traveling, cooking, crocheting, and gathering with family. Nothing brought her more happiness than her family, especially her 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, each one a source of immense pride and joy. She loved deeply and laughed often, and she had a gift for making everyone around her feel loved. Her quick wit and unfiltered humor lit up every room, blessing her family with countless cherished memories, stories, and moments of laughter.
Rosa will forever be remembered as the heart of her family, a loving wife, devoted mother, treasured grandmother, adored sister, and beloved aunt. Her legacy of love, strength, and grace will continue to shine in all the lives she touched.
Rosa is survived by her four daughters: Eva Chaves and her husband, Manuel Chaves, of Hudson; Olga Chaves and Paul Neverette, of Newbury; Maria Ramsay and her husband, David “Skip” Ramsay, of Hudson; and Carmen Chaves and her husband, Conrad Casarjian, of Everett. She also leaves her many grandchildren; three sisters, Felicidade Leandres of Hudson, Helena Braga of Taunton, and Zenalia Bairos and her husband, José Bairos, of Marlborough; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
