Sara Ann “Sally” (Dunbar) Deptula, 86, of Hudson, MA and Pine Point, ME died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA. She was the wife of the late Francis J. "Frank" Deptula of Hudson for 46 years, who passed away in 2008.
Born in Marlboro, daughter of the late Vergene and Elizabeth (Dalton) Dunbar, she was a 1956 graduate of Marlboro High School and a 1960 graduate of Worcester State Teachers College. She was a first-grade teacher for 39 years in Northboro, MA. Her students remember her fondly as being “nice and kind, and a wonderfully memorable teacher.” Sally found her greatest joy spending time with her family, especially at the beach and at Bayleys Camping Resort in Maine. She was also a long-time member of the Hudson Elks and Emblem Club and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.
She is survived by her children, Dori La Bella and husband Daniel of Warwick, RI, Stefan Deptula and wife Rosalind of Standish, ME and Sherri Fedele and husband Mark of Clinton. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Antonia (Mark Wilbur) and Catherine La Bella (Derek Proch), Jack and Rogan Deptula and Alicia and Tanner Fedele, and 3 great grandchildren Joanna and Maria Wilbur and Elsie Proch. She is also survived by her sister Mary Bruso (Edward), and her brothers John Dunbar (Janet), and William Dunbar (Bonnie) and several nieces and nephews, as well as the many students whose lives she touched.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson following a procession to Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749. The Hudson Elks will conduct their ritual on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
