Sheila A. Caty, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of the Hudson community, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, on her 90th birthday. Born on March 18, 1936, in Arlington, MA, Sheila lived a life defined by her deep love for her family, whose presence brought her the greatest joy and fulfillment.
Sheila graduated from Matignon High School in Cambridge, MA in 1954. She went on to pursue her passion for nursing at Boston College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and beginning a lifelong commitment to caring for others. As a Visiting Nurse throughout the Marlborough and Hudson areas, Sheila served her community with compassion, warmth, and dedication. Through her many years with Assabet Valley Home Health, she touched countless lives.
Sheila married Robert F. Caty, sharing 47 wonderful years together until his passing in 2005. In 1966, they made their home in Hudson, where they raised their family and built a life centered on love, laughter, and togetherness. Sheila found her happiest moments surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether hosting family gatherings, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying time together, she treasured every moment and made each person feel deeply loved and welcomed.
Her call to service extended into her community. Sheila served as President of the Friends of the Hudson Senior Center and was an active member of the Hudson Housing Authority. She was a faithful parishioner of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson and the former Christ the King Parish, where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality. She also enjoyed traveling, including trips to Maine’s beaches, Ireland, Alaska, Amsterdam, and visits to the Carolinas to spend time with family.
Sheila’s gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love created a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her legacy lives on most powerfully in the family she nurtured and adored, and in the countless memories of time spent together - filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Sheila is survived by her children: Dr. Michael G. Caty and his wife Diana of Guilford, CT; David C. Caty and his wife Michelle of Northborough, MA; Mary E. Bonner and her husband Francis of Boylston, MA; Thomas C. Caty and his wife Robin of Hudson, MA; Deborah A. Kapopoulos and her husband Ernest of Charlotte, NC; Jeffrey A. Caty and his wife Mary of Norwalk, CT; and Robert D. Caty and his wife Suzanne of Cornelius, NC. She is also survived by her brother, Kevin E. Whalen of Somerville, MA. Sheila’s love lives on through her 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy, as well as many other relatives and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Caty; her father, Thomas F. Whalen; her mother, Catherine E. (White) Whalen; and her sister-in-law, Elaine Whalen.
