Sheila M Mahoney

Sheila M. Mahoney, of Lowell, Massachusetts, formally of Hudson, MA, passed away on September 23, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on June 20, 1932, in Los Angeles, California. In her early years, she moved often and was raised in Roslindale. In 1969, she made her home in Hudson, where she would build a life centered on family, faith, and service.

Sheila was a loving, caring, and honest woman whose deepest passion was her family and her church. She received her Master’s Degree in Education and devoted many years to teaching. Beginning in 1969, she worked in the Marlborough School District, first at the middle school level and later teaching high school, before retiring in 1995. Her work in education reflected the same steady commitment and compassion that marked every part of her life.

Her faith was a guiding force throughout the years. Sheila became a parishioner of St. Michael’s Parish in 1969 and remained deeply involved in the life of the church. For 21 years, she served on the parish council. She was a lector, supervised lectors, and ran the RCIA. She also served on the faith formations committee, ran the CCD program, was a Eucharistic minister, and was a member of the liturgy committee. Her devotion to her parish was a true expression of the generosity and care she gave so freely to others.

Sheila also embraced life with curiosity and gratitude. She traveled to Europe more than thirty times over the course of her life and visited many destinations, national parks, and landmarks across the United States. These journeys reflected her appreciation for the world around her and the joy she found in experiencing its beauty.

Sheila was predeceased by her beloved husband, William H. Mahoney, who died in 2004 after 48 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her father, Thomas McKinnon; her mother, Juliet Alder; and her brother, Thomas McKinnon.

She leaves behind a family who will carry her love and example with them always: her son, Rev. Brian E. Mahoney; her son William Mahoney and his wife, Deborah; her daughter Anne Shanahan and her husband, Paul; her son Paul Mahoney and his wife, Cindy; her son Kevin Mahoney and his wife, Kim; and her daughter Lisa-Beth Hampe. She was also the cherished grandmother of Kevin Shanahan and his wife Kelly, Meghan Shanahan, Adam Shanahan, Julie Mahoney, Melissa Mahoney, Patrick Mahoney, Katie Mahoney, and Allyson Tuttle, and the proud great-grandmother of Neve Shanahan. In each of their lives, Sheila’s warmth, faith, and loving presence will remain a lasting blessing.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Michael’s Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA 01749, followed by burial at 11:15 AM at Saint Michael Cemetery, 278 Cox Street, Hudson, MA 01749.

Sheila will be remembered for the steady grace of her faith, the kindness she extended to others, and the love she poured into her family, her students, and her parish community. Her life was one of devotion and quiet strength, and her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her. And for her love of Boston sports. Sheila loved to watch the Patriots with her boys remotely. They would all get on phones calls during the Patriots games to celebrate touchdowns and wins.
