Stephen Billington

Stephen Billington, 64, of Hudson, MA passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 3, 1961, the son of Claire (Lagasse) Billington and the late John (Jack) Billington, Raised in N. Attleboro, Stephen later resided in several places including Central Falls, Cumberland and Providence RI, South Attleboro, Marlborough and Acton MA , prior to spending the last decade in Hudson.

He pursued various interests that highlighted his zest for life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, racing remote controlled cars and planes; and cherished moments spent sailing, with Newport RI being his favorite destination. Additionally, he enjoyed golf and was an avid Patriots fan. All of his interest allowed him to fully display his quick wit and sense of humor.

An innovative Software Engineer, he dedicated the majority of his career to technology with his most recent role at MIT in Cambridge where he worked from 2013-2023. His commitment to his craft was evident, as he constantly sought to push boundaries to create impactful digital experiences.

Stephen was known to be warm, loving, kind, friendly, personable, and a remarkable communicator. He had a unique ability to give selflessly that embodied the philosophy of a “giver not a taker”

He possessed a great spirit, attitude, work ethic, and sense of humor throughout his entire life which will be missed by all that knew him.

Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Lisa (Musante) Billington; his daughters, Leah Billington of Hudson, MA, and Lauren Billington of Washington State; and his beloved grandson, Stephen "Rudy" Billington. He is also remembered by his brothers, John Billington and wife Dianne of Rehoboth, MA, and Jim Billington and wife Lisa of Ocala Florida, along with his sister, Pat Ahearn and husband John of Amherst, ME. Additionally, his cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends will hold his memory dear.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father John (Jack) Billington and survived by his mother Claire (LaGasse) Billington, whom he held in high regard and loved immensely.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 8th, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Celebration of Stephen's life will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Procession will follow to Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson for burial.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice staff at Notre Dame Healthcare, The staff the ALS care team at Mass General Hospital, and Compassionate Care ALS for their years of compassionate care and support through Steve’s illness.
