Thomas A. Hand

Thomas Hand, of Hudson, MA, passed away at home on August 31, 2026. Born in Pensacola, Florida, on October 3, 1964, Thom was the son of David James Hand and Carole O’Connell Hand.

He is survived by his sister Maura Cavanaugh and her husband Leo of Ashland, MA, his brother John Hand and his wife Julie of Needham, MA, his sister Sarah Murphy and her husband Bob of Quincy, MA, his brother Matthew Hand and his wife Rima of Dover, MA, his brother Kit Hand and his wife Lisa of Chicago, IL, and his brother Mark Hand and his wife Katelyn of Charleston, SC, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Carole O’Connell Hand, and his father, David Hand, MD.

After being stationed in Pensacola as a Navy flight surgeon, David Hand moved his growing family to the Naval air station in Weymouth, MA, and then to Manchester, NH. The Hand family next resided in Hull, MA, and after that settled on a small farm in Sherborn, MA, in 1972, where they resided for 35 years. There, Thom helped out around the farm, played sports, and attended Pine Hill Elementary School. Many days were spent installing fencing, baling hay for the cows and horses, mowing lawns, or swimming and playing tennis. He often rode his bike to Farm Pond to sail and swim during the summers.

Thom was a natural athlete and excelled in every sport he played. In 1976, as a young 12-year old middle schooler, he was picked for the baseball all-star team, playing with teammates older than him. He was an excellent goalie in ice hockey and was selected by the Natick Comets for the A team, and traveled to Canada for tournament play. At Dover-Sherborn High School, Thom was the backbone of his hockey team, winning trophies and awards throughout his high school career. Thom was also a very skilled soccer player and was picked as team captain in both his junior and senior years at Dover-Sherborn High. Between high school and college, he completed a post-graduate year at Northfield Mount Hermon School in western MA, and played soccer there as well. Thom went on to play both soccer and lacrosse at Middlebury College in Vermont. There, he was named captain of his soccer team, and at one point, his team was ranked top 10 in the nation. Thom received his BA degree from Middlebury College in Political Philosophy (1984 - 1988).

After college, Thom built a distinguished career in wealth management, serving clients with dedication, expertise, and trusted leadership for over 30 years. As a financial advisor, Thom connected with his clients and was fiercely loyal to them. For the last 12 years, Thom was Vice President of Investments at the Boston financial firm Moors & Cabot.

Thom loved all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Bruins, having held season tickets to both teams for many years. Thom was also an avid photographer, and particularly loved taking black and white photos, often developing the film himself. He thoroughly enjoyed listening to a wide range of music, and was frequently off traveling throughout the United States and abroad.

A Celebration of Thom’s Life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM at the Fireside Tavern Sherborn, located at 33 N Main St., Sherborn, MA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association.
