Walter W. Darby

November 9, 1964 — December 21, 2025

Walter W. Darby, born on November 9, 1964, in Waltham, MA, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was a cherished member of his family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love and hard work.

Walter served as a manager for several local CVS locations for many years, demonstrating his commitment to his career and the people he served. His journey in the workforce began in his youth when he worked at the family Deli Market, Bank Square Market, in Waltham, MA, alongside his father. A proud graduate of Keefe Regional Technical High School in 1983, Walter carried the values he learned throughout his life, marked by a strong work ethic and a dedication to his family.

In 1983, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge in 1989. This experience shaped him significantly, and he carried the pride of his service with him always. Walter’s time as a Marine resonated with the same values that characterized his later life: resilience, dedication, and a steadfast spirit.

Walter is remembered fondly for his upbeat personality and his genuine interest in others. Although he possessed a stubborn trait and preferred to do things his way, he consistently prioritized the needs and interests of those around him. His laughter and joyful demeanor brought warmth to every gathering, making him a beloved figure among family and friends.

Walter found greatest joy in the company of his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren, Brody and Logan Sarsfield, who fondly referred to him as “Pupa”. His passion for life extended beyond family gatherings to include hobbies such as fishing—whether in local ponds and lakes or challenging himself with saltwater fishing. In his younger years, he also found enjoyment in bowling, participating in leagues at the Bowladrome in Acton, MA, roller skating, disco dancing, and modifying his beloved 1982 red Camaro.

He resided in Hudson, MA, for many years, a location meaningful to him since the birth of his children, Monika and Nicholas, who he shares with former wife Patricia Burkis. He leaves behind his beloved children: Monika I. Sarsfield (Darby) and her husband Jason of Leominster, MA, who gave him his two grandchildren, Brody and Logan Sarsfield, Nicholas W. Darby of Hudson, MA, and Jillian K. Darby from Walter's second marriage. Walter is also survived by his siblings: Debra Donlon of Marlborough, MA, Lee Stapp and her husband Bob of Reidsville, NC and David Darby of Hudson, MA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter E. Darby, and his mother, Shirley M. Darby (Dunsford/McMahon).
