Walter Liljegren, 86, of Boothbay, Maine (formerly of Hudson, Massachusetts), passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 30th with his children by his side. Walter grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Lillian (Turell) & Earl Liljegren. He graduated from Dorchester High School in 1957, and married the love of his life Kathleen (Maguire) Liljegren in 1961. Walter began a career with the US Army Reserves after graduating officer candidate school in 1965, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Walter will be remembered by his family as a generous and loving spirit who was both an artist and a jokester. He leaves behind his children James Liljegren and his wife Theresa, and Sheri Lazaros and her husband Charles, all of Boothbay, Maine; his grandchildren Charles Lazaros and his wife Debra, Gabrielle Soule and her husband Derek, and Taylor O’Neil and her husband Edward; his great-grandchildren Landon and Amelia Lazaros and Abraham O’Neil; his beloved brother Karl Liljegren and his wife Christine, his brother-in-law John Maguire and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Katheen, as well as his brother Robert Liljegren, sisters Muriel Huard and Priscilla DeCastro, and brothers-in-law Thomas and Arthur Maguire.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Saint Michael Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson; followed by burial at Saint Michael Cemetery, Cox Street, Hudson.
