William J. Upton

William J. (Bill) Upton, a cherished husband, brother, and uncle, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born on March 31, 1951, in Providence, RI, where he was raised in a nurturing environment that shaped his warm and welcoming personality.  Bill graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence in 1969, later pursuing further education at the Computer Data Institute in Waltham, MA. His career as a software engineer spanned an impressive 37 years with the same company, during which he contributed significantly to the field of econometric modeling before retiring.

Bill was known not only for his professional achievements but also for his deep love of family. He was a devoted husband to Genevieve L. "Merkel" Upton, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. Together, they created a lifetime of memories, especially during their cherished vacations to various Disney destinations, as well as many other adventures across the United States and abroad.

He was a beloved Uncle Bill to his nieces and nephews, who delighted in his entertaining spirit throughout the years. Bill's dedication to his family was evident in everything he did, and his passing leaves a profound void in their lives.

In addition to his family, Bill had many interests that brought him joy. He enjoyed researching and dabbling in the stock market, had a keen interest in science fiction movies and shows, and a love of classical music.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Genevieve; his sister, Theresa Jaswell and her husband Gary of Narragansett, RI; his brothers, George Upton Jr. and his wife Barbara of Andover, CT, and Daniel Upton and his wife Antonetta of Smithfield, RI; as well asmany nieces, nephews, cousins including Rita Caraccia and her husband Dennis of Lincoln RI, the Merkel family, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, George Upton Sr., and his mother, Marie "Bergeron" Upton.

Bill's warm presence and the love he shared will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on August 14, 2025, at Saint Michael Church, 23 Manning Street, Hudson, MA, from 10:00 AM to10:45 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM to celebrate his life. Burial services will be held privately at a later date. The memories he leaves behind will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
