David Leo Shomphe

On Sunday Morning, March 5, David Leo Shomphe passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.  He was seventy-one.  Born to Barbara and Leo Shomphe, David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan, his sons Chris and Steve along with their wives Jillian and Lindsay.  David’s legacy will live on through his seven beautiful grandchildren who brought him so much pride and joy.  Barron, Aiden, Nicky, Joanne, Maddy, Lucas and Benjamin will miss their Papa and cherish the memories they made at the Cape, taking walks in Maine and having fun together.

David touched so many throughout his life and will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, caring and generous person.  He grew up in Southborough, MA and later returned to raise his family there.  He has connections to Merrimack College where he attended as an undergrad and later returned to coach soccer.  David also taught mathematics at Bishop Fenwick and Salem High Schools for over 10 years.  He eventually took over his father’s business, which was centered around sanding and resurfacing bowling alleys throughout New England.  His company, Gold Crown Service, grew into a successful service company in which David was able to work hand in hand with his two sons and form lasting relationships with hundreds of sole proprietors around the country.

David enjoyed taking walks with his wife, family and dogs at the Cape and in Maine.  He and Joan shared a fondness of Boston terriers and had several over the years including Koko, Brady and Lucy.  He also loved antiquing, frequenting flea markets and stores across New England.  David appreciated working with his sons and helped Chris and Steve renovate their family homes where many memories were made.  David loved sports and attended countless games that his sons (and grandkids) played in over the years.  The Patriots were his favorite team and going to games with his boys was top on his list.  A season ticket holder for over 30 years, David was able to see some of the best games with his two sons.

A celebration of life is being planned at the Courtyard By Marriott in Marlborough, MA (75 Felton Street) on May 6 from 1pm-4pm in which friends and family can get together to remember David.  In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead donate to A Place to Start, https://www.aplacetostartfordementia.org
