Hudson

George W. Redding, 90, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Rose Monahan Hospice, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 39 years, Dorothy (Poole) Redding, who predeceased him in 1991.

George was born in Brighton, MA, on May 27, 1929, one of four children of the late James A. and Frances G. (Lenoir) Redding. George graduated from Brighton High School in the class of 1947 and shortly after enlisted in the United States Army, honorable serving from 1951 until 1953, during the Korean War. He married the love of his life Dorothy (Poole) Redding on March 1, 1952, embarking on a 39-year marriage together, eventually settling in Hudson, MA in 1969, where he still currently resided. George had a long and successful career as a Dairy Manager for A&P Supermarkets, retiring after forty years of dedicated hard work. Following his retirement, he continued working part time as a custodian for ATM Banks.

George became an avid golfer after retiring from A&P Supermarket. A true Bostonian, he was a fierce Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and also enjoyed his western movies. Above all else he was a true patriarch to his family and a loving and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His generosity, encouragement and support for his family was unmatched; especially with his son, whom he helped open Hudson Appliance in 1972.

George is survived by his son, Arthur Poole Redding and daughter-in-law Donna L Redding of Hudson; his granddaughter, D.J. Collins and her husband Thomas Scott Collins also of Hudson; three great-grandchildren, Alicia Kathryn Collins, Morgan Lizabeth Collins and Thomas Scott Collins, Jr. He also leaves behind his longtime companion Sue Ferguson.

All services will be held privately. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with the arrangements.
