Joan M. (Shaughnessy) Fahey, 87, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021, after a period of declining health. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Edward Thomas Fahey, who predeceased her on October 31, 1978.
Joan was born in Marlborough, MA, on July 18, 1934, the daughter of Irish immigrants the late John M. and Sarah Jane (Marren) Shaughnessy. She graduated from St. Anne Academy in 1952 and married the love of her life, Edward Fahey, in 1957. They made their home in Hudson, MA, where they raised their 3 children and resided for many decades.
After Eddie’s death she stepped into the family business and took up the position of Executive Vice President of Fahey Exhibits. She made and maintained longtime friendships with all of her coworkers. She especially enjoyed hosting holiday parties and summer picnics for the shop family. She was an active member of the Women’s Club and a volunteer at the local election polls in Hudson. She also volunteered for years at the Marlborough Hospital Gift Shop. Joan was a member of the Salt Air Village community in Dennisport for 50 years and loved spending summers at her cottage on the Cape. She was passionate about her Boston Bruins and hardly missed a game at the Garden in her many years as a season ticket holder.
Joan was a caring and generous person. She loved sharing her home, cottage and time with friends and family. She especially cherished her time with her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by 3 children, Colleen F. Carvelli and her husband Peter of Aspen, CO, Daniel E. Fahey of Nantucket, MA and Erin T. Mahoney of Harwich, MA and 5 grandchildren, Eric Frazier, Kevin Frazier, Christopher Mahoney, Elizabeth Mahoney and Andrew Mahoney. In addition to her husband Edward T. Fahey, she was predeceased by her brother, John/Jack Shaughnessy and her son-in-law, Francis Mahoney.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge and Seasons Hospice for all the loving care they provided Joan over the last few years.
