Joan L. Percival

April 8, 1931 — June 3, 2020

Westborough

Joan L. (McNamara) Percival, 89, of Westborough, MA, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at UMass Medical Center.

Joan was born in Boston, MA, on April 8, 1931, a daughter of the late Harry E. McNamara and Margaret (Hegarty) McNamara. She was raised in Boston, where she graduated from High School and later earned an associate’s degree.

Prior to settling back in the Boston area to raise her son in the mid 1970’s, Joni had an exciting range of roles within the talent management and entertainment industry in California and Hawaii.  She was also a very talented singer herself, performing locally in the Boston area, as well as during her time on the west coast.  Prior to her retirement, Joni worked as manager of an Ethan Allen furniture store and a very successful copier & fax sales company.

Her proudest accomplishment was raising her son as a single working mother, and the special bond they shared.  She put everything she had into making sure her son had everything he needed to be decent and successful, including sacrificing her own financial security to afford him a high quality private Catholic education.

In her later years, she took great joy in spending time with her son and his family. She especially loved getting “double hugs” from her beautiful twin granddaughters Julia and Nicole.

She was very intelligent with a sharp wit, and would always lend a caring ear to anyone who needed it.  She will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by her son, Robert Percival and daughter-in-law Hillary Percival of Hudson, MA; her grandchildren, Julia and Nicole Percival of Hudson, MA; and her siblings, James McNamara (Patricia) of Plymouth, MA and Diane McNamara of Rochester, NH.  She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry E. McNamara and Margaret McNamara (Hegarty); and her siblings, Arthur McNamara, Harry "Mac" McNamara, Margaret Nickerson (McNamara), and Kevin McNamara.

A private prayer service will be held with immediate family, and a Celebration of Life for extended family and friends will be announced at a later date. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with her arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in loving memory of Joan L. Percival to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
