On Friday, March 20th, 2020, Joao Batista Rego, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 73.

Joao was born in Santa Maria, Portugal on June 21st, 1946. He attended his years of education in Portugal. He selflessly fought for his country when joining the Portuguese military in his early 20’s. He had many different talents and hobbies. Joao loved playing soccer in his younger years, this grew his admiration for Sporting Clube de Portugal soccer team. Easily he was their biggest fan. Joao loved being outdoors and surrounded by nature. He loved to fish and grow his own vegetables and personally reconstructed his own grape vines. He was also an amazing lyrical writer and led many Portuguese festival dances. He was extremely devoted to the Portuguese community here in Hudson. There wasn’t much Joao couldn’t do.

Joao is survived by his beloved wife, Lucrenia Maria Rego, 69 of Hudson, their 4 children; Nelson Rego of Fall River, Nolita Martins and husband Alex Martins of Hudson and Eli Rego of Hudson.He also leaves behind his eight grandchildren that he loved dearly: Leigha, Stephanie, Felisha, Anthony, Giovanni, Bella, Eliana and Beckham. He is survived by his sisters Maria Cabral of Hudson, Gloria Hinchey- Paz of Hudson and brother Manuel Rego of Clinton. Joao is preceded by his brother Jose Batista Rego, and sister Fernanda Brasil and finally reuniting with his son Edurado Rego. All services will be held privately. Due to the pandemic a memorial service will be held at a later date.
