Lancaster

Kenneth Lanney, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Helen (Garcia) Lanney, to whom he was married for nearly 70 years.

Alongside his wife, Kenny is survived by his son Steven and his wife, Diane (DuBois) Lanney of East Hampton, CT, his daughter Jeanette (Lanney) Gavin and her husband, Daniel of Charles Town, West Virginia, and three granddaughters; Michelle Lanney, Nichole Lanney, and Danielle Gavin, and two great grandsons; Nazier and Hezekiah.

Kenny proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he developed his love for ships. He was happiest when enjoying one of his many hobbies. Many afternoons were spent fishing, going to the shooting range, and visiting with friends and neighbors down at the local McDonalds. He was unexpectedly talented when it came to artistic hobbies. His workshop was a favorite spot where he carved many detailed wooden birds, painted, and built meticulous wooden model ships, and ships in a bottle. Ken had a great talent for woodworking—a skill that he passed down to his son. Favorite projects  included toy boxes and rocking horses, all great labors of love which his family will now cherish for years to come.

Kenny also loved to dance. After first meeting Helen at a local dance, the pair continued to attend dances well into their years together. They would even create their own in the living room when given the chance. He had a sweet tooth and loved boxes of chocolate, eggnog, custard pie and drinking extremely hot coffee with pretty much everything. But his favorite meal of all was to split a fish & chips plate with his wife. And yes, they still paired it with a hot coffee.

Known for his humor and smart-aleck remarks, Kenny was always ready with a joke; anything to make his family laugh, which he always managed to do. His favorite saying to his granddaughters was “give me a high 4” as he held up his right hand (which was ironically missing his ring finger after an accident decades ago). From making silly voices when they were younger, to making puzzles, and even teaching them how to shoot when they were older, Grampy was always there with a “Hey, Babe” when the girls walked through the door.

Kenny will be truly missed by his family and everyone who knew him over the years. A small private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
