Louise A. (Guidotti) Carney

Louise (Guidotti) Carney, 90, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband Robert J. Carney and is survived by her children, James Carney and his wife CeAnn of Florida, Stephen Carney and his spouse Craig Hobb of California, Charles Carney and his spouse Greg Santos of Florida and Paul Carney and his wife Kerri of Hudson, MA. She also leaves her grandchildren, Morgan Carney, Caroline Carney, Alexandra Carney, Megan Shermerhorn, Lauren Carney, William Carney; her 2 great grandchildren, Jon and Finn Shermerhorn along with her brother Charles Guidotti and his wife Barbara of Maine; her sister-in-law Sally Guidotti, wife of the late Hugo Guidotti and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Louise was born in Somerville, MA, daughter of the late Hugo G. and Mary (Keblinski) Guidotti. Following Louise’s Hudson High School graduation, she entered Becker Junior College’s Retailing Program.  Fortunately, the B.J.C program included good business and secretarial courses.  They came in handy later and throughout the following years.  At Becker, Louise was appointed Editor in Chief of the yearbook.  She was also active in many clubs.

Her first job was at Richard Healy’s in Worcester in their training program.

Crawford Holidays in Boston was her next move, where she became Assistant Buyer in their French Designers Salon.  It soon became apparent that the high-stress lifestyle in the retail business was not completely her “cup of tea”.  It was time for a change.

Next and the most enjoyable of her work was as the Assistant Registrar to Bessie A. Ring, Head Registrar of the Boston University Graduate School.  She enjoyed contact with students from all over the world, as well as deans of various schools, professors, and teaching staff of the graduate school.

Unfortunately, when Louise’s father passed away, she was called back home.  Luckily, another interesting job surfaced at the dentistry of Dr. Albert Miller’s practice in Hudson where she became the Office Manager.  This was a very engaging time.  In addition to office management, Dr. Miller was a great instructor, teaching her how to take x-rays and prepare them for presentations.

The next big step was her marriage to Robert J. Carney, formerly of Taunton MA, and a Tufts graduate.  They settled into their new home on Curley Drive in Hudson.  A year and a half later, their first son, James (1957), was born.  He was followed by another three sons, Stephen (1958), Charles (1959, and Paul (1961).  They resided on Curley Drive for 8 years.  Being a “stay-at-home” mom was her cup of tea.

As the family grew, they moved to Lilac Lane in Hudson.  This was the old homestead where Louise grew up as a child and young adult.  During this time, Robert entered a business venture as a partner with Harriman A. Reardon Insurance Inc.  A few years later Robert took over the business.

The home on Lilac Lane came with a barn and abundant land.  This provided a natural transition for the family to integrate horses and ponies into their lives for a 20-year involvement.

Louise was a part of the 4-H Horse Program not only on the local level, but also on the state level.  This was a time of personal growth and fulfillment for her by imparting on her sons valuable organizational skills, record keeping, stable inspections, public speaking, and managing horse projects more than just the horse itself.  Soon, Louise’s involvement as a 4-H leader escalated her to judging at the local level and the state level.

As a director of the Middlesex County Horse Board, she worked as a liaison between that committee and the Middlesex County Fair Committee.

Louise enjoyed chairmanship of the first Massachusetts State Horse Show.  She also chaired the Eastern Seaboard 3-day event at the 4-H Center in Ashland, Maryland.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A funeral service and Celebration of Louise’s life will follow at 11am in the funeral home. Burial services will immediately follow in Saint Michael Cemetery, Hudson, MA.
