Maria Isabel Frias DaSilva, 72, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Metro West Hospital in Framingham after a period of declining health. She leaves her beloved husband of 50 years, Aluisio F. DaSilva.

Maria was born in Santa Maria Azores, Portugal, on September 17, 1947, the eldest daughter of seventeen children of the late Antonio Joaquim Frias and Maria Chaves Frias. She immigrated to Hudson with her parents and siblings in 1955. Maria built her life in Hudson and was surrounded by many friends and family members from the Portuguese community. She had a long career in education at the Hudson Public Schools as a para educator and formal translator for the school system and CHAPS in Hudson before retiring 6 years ago - she was known as “Mrs. D.”

Maria was a longtime member of Saint Michael’s Parish. She was known for always assisting those in need and held a special place in her heart for teaching children English. She enjoyed cooking delicious traditional Azorean and Brazilian dishes and desserts for her entire extended family. Spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandson was her most cherished of pastimes. She especially loved visiting her homeland and vacationing in her childhood home in the Maia, Santa Maria, Azores.

In addition to her husband, Aluisio, she is survived by her 4 children: Christina Terranova, Carla DaSilva, Cassia Freitas and  her husband Steven, and Aluisio DaSilva, Jr. and his wife Joana, all of Hudson, MA; 10 grandchildren, Katelyn, Christine, Morvan, Isabella, Marina, Leilah, Blake, Angelina, Bridget and Sabrina, and 1 great-grandchild, Benjamin and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her siblings, John, Isabel, Steven, Lena, Dennis and Gilbert and is survived by her siblings, Antonio and wife Manuela, Jose and his wife Joanne, Manuel and his wife Aldora, David, Rosa Garcia, Theresa and Armindo and his wife Joanne.

Due to the current health crisis, all services will be held privately. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at Saint Michael Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in loving memory of Maria Isabel Frias DaSilva to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation (www.christopherreeve.org).
