Ruth Elaine (Doellner) Jensen

Ruth Elaine Jensen, age 91, passed away on April 24, 2021, at Halifax Health Hospice Center in Port Orange, Florida.  Ruth was born in Flint, Michigan on September 18, 1929, to the late Oscar and Sophie Doellner. She spent most of her childhood growing up in East Greenbush, NY along with her two younger siblings, Doris and Oscar Jr.  She graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, NY and Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, MA, where she met and married her beloved husband of almost 62 years, Peter Aagaard Jensen.  She graduated with a degree in home economics and secondary education and also minored in German.  She later received a masters degree in home economics education at Framingham State College in Framingham, MA.

Ruth worked as an administrative dietician at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.  She then worked as a teacher for a junior high school and high school before working as a teacher at Atlantic Union College.  She later became Peter’s office manager for the last 10 years of his dental practice.  Following Peter’s retirement, they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 2000.

Ruth loved to travel, camp, play tennis, snow ski, knit, sew, quilt, and cook.  She was very active in her church playing the piano for the church service, teaching in the kindergarten Sabbath School class, and planning church social events.  Later in life she took up bridge and very much enjoyed the friendships she made there.  Her husband, four daughters, and later grandchildren were most important to her.

She is survived by her three daughters, Susan McGraw and husband John, Saundra Merriman and husband Harold, Stacey Johlman and husband Glenn; four grandchildren, John (JW) McGraw and wife Jessica, Christy McGraw, Timothy McGraw, Justin Merriman and wife Madi; two great-granddaughters Brooke and Harper McGraw, and the soon arrival of great grandson baby Merriman.  She will be laid to rest near her beloved husband, Peter Jensen, and oldest daughter, Sharey Jensen.

All are invited to a period of visitation from 5-8pm on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Friday August 6, 2021, at Forest Vale Cemetery in Hudson.
